It's been a little while since I've featured a Liverpool food review so I'm kicking it off with a bang with a visit to the I Am Doner store in Bootle, Liverpool which recently opened right next to the Costa Coffee. Just before Christmas we got the chance to head down for date night on their opening weekend so I thought I'd share a little review and my thoughts on it with you all before you head down.
I Am Doner
I Am Doner was founded by Paul who was trained by some of the UK's best chefs. He started I Am Doner because he wanted to make the doner kebabs more than just a guilty pleasure for those that have had one too many drinks. They use a combination of 120 ingredients in the 8 kebabs they make. All of their breads and sauces are made in house and they only use the finest quality meats in the items on their menu whilst all of their packaging is 100% compatible or recyclable in all of their locations throughout the UK.
I Am Doner Bootle
I Am Doner Bootle launched before Christmas and is situated just next to the Costa Coffee. I loved how cool the interior was inside however I wasn't a huge fan that the touch screen ordering system was right on the wall by the door so when it gets busy it's gonna end being a bit of a nightmare to actually get in and move around once you've ordered. As someone who is a big introvert (shocker I know for someone that works in social media) and a huge fussy eater, I love that you can do your complete order on the touch screen pads right when you enter, including any changes or additions you want to make to your meal.
On their menu, I Am Doner offer Berlin kebabs, street cart fries, salad boxes, rice boxes and then sides/extras so there is plenty to choose from, all of which can be edited to allow you to customise it to your hearts content so it's perfect for even the fussiest of eaters. In their kebabs it's not just your basic meat kebabs, they also offer halloumi, falafel and Voner Seitan Berlin kebabs so there is something for everyone no matter what your dietary requirements are. We ended up going for two kebabs meals, one chicken & doner mix Berlin kebab and the chicken Berlin kebab. I decided to switch out the feta cheese for halloumi and removed the tomato and red onion (told you I was a fussy eater) and got it with a mild spice level, considering that one I'm a fussy eater and two have a really small appetite, I actually managed to eat over 3/4 of this kebab and they are like the size of two pop cans lengthwise! For their mains, their prices start from £6.45 and go up till £9.45.
I absolutely loved the mix of the chicken Berlin kebab with the added halloumi in, that with the combination of spice with chilli sauce and garlic mayo alongside the grated carrot, pickled red cabbage and crispy fried veggies. It is a little bit more pricey compared to a usual type of kebab that you might see people digging into if they'd had one too many drinks but the quality of the food from I Am Doner Liverpool is a world above and is even fussy eater friendly.
