It's been a little while since I got the chance to visit Gran Caffe and recently the lovely girls at Propel Publications recently sent me an invite because the amazing folks at Gran Caffe have launched another location in Liverpool on Lark Lane and I got the chance to head along to their opening weekend to check out the new location and try out their brunch menu which was completely new to me.
Their latest launch is located on 109 Lark Lane so it's perfect if you want to go for a wander around Sefton Park and need either a coffee or something before/after your walk. I'm all very jealous to all of you that live by Lark Lane because it means you can head in for brunch or a pastry in the morning and it's right there, they really need to open a location on the Wirral. Gran Caffe offers coffee, cake, pastries, and Italian delicacies either to eat in or takeaway. Plus they even have outdoor seating when we do get the rare bit of sunshine in the UK.
I headed into the new Lark Lane location with one of my friends for a catch up over so some good food and coffee. Now I've been having a bit of a sweet tooth at the moment and of course they sat us down right by the case of fresh pastries which made me then just want something sweet the entire time we were there. Believe it or not, they made 3 cases worth of pastries for the opening day and by the time we were having brunch in the early afternoon, they'd almost completely sold out so word to the wise, get there earlier in day than later.
Gran Caffe offer a breakfast and brunch menu from 8.30am-4pm and an aperitivo menu from 4pm-9pm. We decided to head down for the breakfast and brunch menu cause it looked so good. I've tried the croissant sandwiches before and they were so good so you know I had to head back to try out more of the breakfast and brunch menu. This morning menu has got some British classics like a fry up with an Italian twist such as having your fry up with a croissant.
We ended up going for a couple of dishes that we split between us (are you even friends if you don't do that when you go out to eat). First up, we got the gran fry up which came with eggs made in your preferred way, streaky bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash brown, beans, mushrooms, and tomato all served on a smashed croissant. Then we also went for the avocado scrambled croissant which came with avocado, scrambled eggs and cherry tomato on a smashed croissant. We did get one of their tricolore salad's because they now offer a range of salads all day. Now I'm not a huge salad girl but I absolutely loved the breakfasts. I'm not normally a fan of avocado and scrambled egg so I was really pleased with how much I did actually like them and the addition of the smashed croissants with the breakfast dishes. To finish off the meal, we had a custard croissant and a coffee which if you go and have nothing else get them two cause they were absolutely delicious together and I'm not a fan of custard type sweets so that's a big compliment from me.
A quip I did have was that it is a small location so we were sat on a 2-seater table and there was definitely struggled to fit everything on the table for the two of us. Also the dishes also came out at separate times which I don't know if that was just because it was the opening day and they were trying to group dishes together when being made but it did lead to one dish coming out then it was several minutes before the rest of the order came out. If you're on your own, it's not too big a deal but if you're with someone, it's just something to be mindful of. I'm hoping it was just because of the event as in the Duke Street location, we've never had that problem.
