I've talked about it before but I've really been struggling with my sleep over the last couple of years but particularly the last couple of months since I had my big asthma attack, pneumonia and hospital admission, I've had the worse sleep issues and the insomnia has been off the charts. I recently got the chance to try out the Manta Sleep Silk sleep mask and compared to other sleep masks that I've tried I'm very impressed with it.
Manta Sleep
Manta Sleep hopes to empower light sleepers to sleep better to allow them to do more. Whilst on the surface, they appear to make sleep masks and functional sleep accessories, underneath they strive to give their customers the energy to create your best life by focusing on sleep. I love that as a brand they focus on sleep but also on the importance of afternoon naps and the pro-nap movement which incites empowerment and and change in the corporations and communities. They have nine different sleep masks so you're bound to find one that's perfect for you. Manta Sleep also have a range of accessories so you can customise your eye mask depending on how your life changes instead of having to buy a whole new eye mask, their masks start from £35.
Silk Sleep Mask
I got the chance to try out the Silk sleep mask and some of the aromatherapy dots to see how it'll help improve my sleep. The sleep masks come with ear plugs and even a handy mesh storage bag with an internal pocket for additional eye cups. These Silk sleep masks did originally come in a grey silk but the one I went for new purple one because it's so pretty. The silk version is £77 and is made from 100% pure 30 momme silk eye cups and a 22 momme silk head strap. I really like that the Manta Sleep masks have cups so you don't have straight pressure of your eyes which I really hate and especially hate when I'm having a migraine.
I'm such a light sleeper so as soon as my asthma worsened to the point that I was having to head to the hospital, I instructed my family to make sure they packed this sleep mask and it was my go-to for my entire 7 day stay. I used it overnight when trying to sleep but during the afternoon I would have a little nap but as the lights were constantly on during the day and the cups on this silk sleep mask perfectly fits around your eyes and nose to give you a full blackout which is perfect for light sleepers like me.
You all know how much I focus on all things skin and with the amount of time and money I put into looking after my fine hair, I really like the silk on this mask and eye pads because it helps to look after your hair and skin because there's no friction, tugging or tangles. I expected the eye pads on this sleep mask to be the same size and shape all the way round but thankfully they've designed these eye pads with side sleepers in mind, they have tapered the design at the temples so you can sleep on either side really comfortably and still have that full blackout effect. I really like that the back is adjustable because usually the none adjustable are too big for my small head and particularly if I've got a migraine I want it secure but not too tight because the pressure of having it too tight over my eyes can be too much when I've got a migraine.
I've already got my eyes on the cool eye cups as someone with severe migraines on the majority of days in the month, I really like using cold things like those little stick on cooling patches or ice head wraps to help with the pain I get so they are definitely on my spoonie list of things to buy for my chronic illnesses. You can head to the Manta Sleep website to take their quiz to see which sleep mask would be best for you. I completed it and it recommended their weighted mask which would be great for me and my anxiety.
