In the run up to Christmas, I got the chance to bring some friends along to Breakout Liverpool to test out one of their rooms and let you guys all know how we got on. I was kindly invited along to Breakout Liverpool and I decided to take 3 of my best problem solving friends along with me for a surprise room (which we then found out was Cursed Carnival).
Breakout Liverpool
Breakout Liverpool is a live escape room situated just next to the Met Quarter in Liverpool city centre. If you have lived under a rock and haven't got a clue what an escape room is, you basically get locked in a room for 60 minutes with your friends, family or work colleagues and have to solve a number of puzzles and mysteries to escape the room. You have to use everything to your advantage in the room and work as part of a team to help you solve the puzzles and mysteries. So if you loved shows like The Crystal Maze, The Cube, The Amazing Race then Breakout Liverpool is going to be right up your street. On the Breakout Liverpool website you can find a list of their current rooms available as well as a little description of the room, a difficulty rating out of 5 and the link to book.
Cursed Carnival
Cursed Carnival is all about you and your friends winning a spooky looking doll that gives you all sorts of weird dreams and a voice that tells you to return the doll within 7 days, when you go to return the doll, you are locked inside with only an hour to solve the mystery with your friends before midnight on the 7th day. This room is listed as being a 3 out of 5 on Breakout Liverpool's hardness scale. If you didn't know in Breakout Liverpool, you are never completely on your own, if you need a hint or to get out of the room for whatever reason, there is a member of staff watching. So you're never completely on your own and you're kept safe at all times.
I went with three of my friends and we managed to breakout with 26 minutes to spare. The Cursed Carnival consists of 4 different rooms that you have to work through to get to the next one before finally breaking out. This room is heavily lock based and the locks are all different so having several people who all think slightly differently really helped us get through them faster. I will say the first main room where the large portion of tasks to solve are definitely took us the longest and was where we did need a few hints to actually get started but then the last two rooms we absolutely flew through, to the point that the staff member watching us didn't even see us in the second to last room.
Overall it was a really fun room and we had such a laugh doing it. We definitely want to head back and try out the other rooms, we had four people in total so I think that 4-5 people is just the right amount of people cause any more than that you'd just have people standing round or running in to each other. Breakout Liverpool definitely makes such a fun date night or Christmas night out with friends evening.
