Review | Dermalogica Powerbright Dark Spot Peel

It's been a little while since I reviewed a Dermalogica product on my blog but I recently got sent the new Powerbright Dark Spot Peel to test out and having seen little sneak peeks of this on social media, I was really interested in seeing how it would work for my skin as I've started to get some discolouration as I've hit my 30's.

This Powerbright Dark Spot Peel is a at-home skin peel that is designed to help lift surface hyperpigmentation including dark spots, post-breakout marks and melasma. You can either buy it alone for £79 or buy it as a kit with the Powerbright Dark Spot Serum for £139 for 2 full size products. It is filled with AHA and PHA as well as mandelic acid to help quickly exfoliate the appearance of surface level pigmentation whilst the omega-3 helps to soothe your skin and help reduce triggers that could lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and the tranexamic acid and niacinamide help to brighten and help with uneven skin tone. It also includes turmeric butter blend which helps to leave your skin feeling smoother and softer after each use.

This peel is designed to be daily for the first 4-5 days then you can use them 2-3 times a week. You simply cleanse as normal then apply this peel avoiding your lips and eye area before leaving it on for up to 15 minutes (you can leave it for 30 minutes for an extra boost), you then rinse it off with warm water before following it up with the rest of your skincare routine.

Now I have more sensitive skin so I stuck to the 15 minute mark with leaving this on and used the ultracalming cleanser before hand to soothe my skin before applying. It was super easy to apply, you only need an even, thin layer on your face/neck. I noticed a slight tingle when this was on my skin but nothing like stinging or burning and it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I did notice when I washed it off that the top of my cheeks were a little red but I get a bit of rosacea in that area anyway and by the next morning, it had completely settled. Following on from that first use, I've applied a slightly thinner layer on the tops of my cheeks which helped a lot.

From the first couple of uses, I've noticed this powerbright dark spot peel has made my skin look brighter already and my darker spots especially those marks from when I've been picking at my breakouts have started to soften and not look as dark. Because I have more sensitive skin, I use this 1-2 times a week which works perfectly for me and I don't notice any irritation or massive amounts of redness.
