How are we almost at the end of Blogmas week 1?! I got the chance to head along to the launch night of Popeyes in Speke and whilst it was a little bit of a hike for me travelling from the Wirral after work, let me tell you it was definitely worth it when I got there and got to try it got for the first time, not going to lie it was worth the trip!
Popeyes
Popeyes was founded in 1972 in Louisiana by Al Copeland who hoped to serve the best fried chicken. He started off with one small restaurant and now has over 4,000 restaurants across the world. They've now launched all the way in the UK including Liverpool. They use 100% fresh chicken and it's marinated for 12 hours before cooking to allow the bold and flavourful cajun seasonings to infuse into the chicken.
We headed down for the Speke Popeyes launch the second I finished work in the afternoon. As well as having bloggers and influencers, they were doing a soft launch for the staff with friends and family to get them used to the business of being on the retail park. As soon as you walk in, they have several easy to use self-serve machines and we were luckily that the launch of the Speke location came just in time for the launch of their Christmas menu launches.
Let me tell you choosing what to have from the menu was the hardest part of the evening. My brother went for the festive superstack which is a festive take on their chicken sandwich that is topped with sage and onion hash brown, Emmental cheese, cranberry habanero sauce and fries. I decided to go for their iconic chicken tenders with some fries, we did also get some cajun gravy and mac and cheese to try between us.
I am very fussy with food and can easily become put off food if it's a bad texture when you bite into it or it doesn't look right when bitten into. Thankfully I tore the chicken tenders in half and they looked and tasted delicious. Honestly if it was closer to where I lived, I'd be in big trouble! But I do believe that they have a location in Liverpool city centre and I'm going to have to head in there more often when I'm in town cause I loved how juicy, fresh and seasoned the chicken was. I'm a pretty plain girl so I was happy with the chicken tenders dipped into cajun gravy however my brother liked the combination of flavours in the festive burgers.
I wasn't a huge fan of the mac and cheese but that is cause I can make a mean mac and cheese at home myself so I usually prefer that to most mac and cheese's you can get at restaurants. We of course had to go for one of their oreo milkshakes each because it would be rude not to and my word were they good,
All of the staff at the Speke location were so nice and they all made such to check up on everyone throughout their meal, see if there was anything you needed and also gave great recommendations for things to try if you're new to Popeyes. I loved visiting the Speke location but as it's not local to me I'll have to stick to visiting the city centre location and visiting Speke if I'm ever in passing, I'm still in the hope they might open one on up on the Wirral.
