Let's make 2023 the year we try out new places to eat and I've already kicked it off with a great start by myself and Lynsey visiting Alma De Cuba Liverpool to try their cocktails and test out their menu created by one of the original chefs from Alma De Cuba.
Alma De Cuba Liverpool
Alma De Cuba Liverpool is situated in the former St Peter's Church on Seel Street, with it being the first church to be changed from a Church into a social venue. St Peter's Church was first opened in 1788 and continued as a Church until 1978 when it was bought by Urban Splash after a period of disuse and transformed into what we now know as Alma De Cuba.
New Year, New Menu
This year Alma De Cuba has gotten even better by bringing back one of their original chefs. Lynsey kindly invited me along with her to try out the menu and their amazing cocktails for a little night out before my birthday, it was perfect us going out to test a menu together because Lynsey is more of a starter and main person and I'm much more of a main then dessert person.
On their menu, for starters there are seven different choices to pick from including options for meat eaters, veggies and vegans. To start Lynsey went for the Patatas Bravas because it'd just be rude not to with them on the menu. It was really tasty but it had slightly too much garnish on top. For the main courses, you get the choice of six different mains with pork, beef, chicken, cod and quinoa with asparagus being on the menu. I decided to go for the Carne Argentina and Lynsey went for the Bacalao al Horno. Of course as friends we tried a little bit of each others dishes and I'm not usually a fish person but the baked cod was so flakey and delicious. I went for the steak medium well and it was cooked perfectly and was the perfect size for me. Unfortunately little things like changes to the dish, e.g removing the mushroom wasn't followed so it's important to be mindful of if you have food allergies is to reiterate it to the wait staff to prevent that dish being wasted if you have a severe allergy. I do really like that under each dish on the menu, they listed any allergens in each dish to help those with food allergies to identify which dishes would be most appropriate without having to ask the waitstaff a million and one questions.
For desserts we went for the Lio de Banoffee to share which they list as a mess of banana and toffee sauce mixed in with whipped cream and crushed meringue pieces. I have a sweet tooth and I even found that this dessert was a little too sweet for me which surprised me, I manage to eat about half before it became too sweet but what I managed to eat was so delicious and I love the addition of fresh banana in it.
I used to think of Alma De Cuba for their amazing cocktails (try the Ginbull, it's so good!) but I'll definitely be thinking of it as a great place to get food. Between the food, the cocktails and the atmosphere when you're there, it's a great venue to get some dinner either for a date night, to celebrate something or simply to line your stomach before you go out. They have the iconic salsa dancers (and even have a salsa afternoon tea coming back!) so you can have fun with your friends, all while getting some great food.
Have you been to Alma De Cuba yet?
Speak to you next time!
