I recently got the chance to catch up with a close spoonie friend Christy and we decided to head along to Fluffy Fluffy dessert cafe in Liverpool which is in between the bombed out church and China town on Berry street. We'd originally planned to head along on the week they launched but in typically spoonie fashion, we were both ill so we had to reschedule. This was my first time trying a souffle pancake and I was surprised at home much I liked it. I was gutted to have missed the easter pancakes featuring mini eggs.
Fluffy Fluffy
If you haven't seen it already, Fluffy Fluffy is a whole cafe dedicated to desserts. Their souffle pancakes are whipped to give them an airy quality then are cooked slowly on a fresh to order basis to give you a cross over between a souffle and a traditional pancake. They currently have 5 locations in the UK, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Leicester, and Reading.
I am a big fan of pancakes so you know that I was excited to try souffle pancakes. We got there for just before 12 because we thought it would be quiet at 12pm on a Friday but there was already families lining up to get in. With Fluffy Fluffy you order and pay first then take a seat whilst your order is made freshly for you. Don't forget this technique of making pancakes means they are cooked slowly so especially when it's busy, you're going to have to wait a bit longer so keep that in mind if you're going during peak times.
It was so hard to choose what to go for but we both ended up going for souffle pancakes, I went for strawberry and nutella and Christy were for creme brûlée. Will all drinks in Fluffy Fluffy, their drinks are served in a takeaway cup even if you're sitting in to each which was interested but not great when you want to take pictures of coffee and pancakes. I did go for the nutella and hazelnut coffee which in all honest I was too impressed with and have had better coffees elsewhere.
When our pancakes arrived, they look absolutely delicious as you can tell and it was so hard to wait and take photos of them first. I'm used to eating traditional pancakes that are a lot heavier and stodgier so it was really interesting eating a pancake that was so light. Not going to lie because it was so light I couldn't have easily eaten 4 pancakes instead of the 2 that came on the plate. I am all about chocolate and fresh fruit on pancakes and they were the perfect accompaniment with it. I do want to go back because they had something which I think was a mix between a croissant and a waffle which I really want to try. Whilst we were there loads of people were having the various cold drinks and I honestly wanted to go back up for several other drinks cause they all looked so good.
I don't know if I'm just a cheap skate but it was £9 for 2 pancakes and I didn't leave the place feeling full or satiated, like we both left and were tempted to go get something else to eat and I didn't find the hot drinks all that great, so I think overall as much as I'd like to go back and try the waffle, I honestly think it's a bit over priced and would prefer to go somewhere else for brunch or dessert for the same price.
