It's been a little while since I last visited Nova Scotia so when I got the email inviting me to their Christmas menu launch, I jumped at the chance. I also brought along one of my closest friends Steph so we could have a good catch up whilst we enjoyed some food and cocktails, they are also vegan so it gives you a good judge of what the overall Christmas menu is like and not just the meat eater side of it!
The Nova Scotia Christmas menu is now available to be booked for your Christmas night outs between the 20th November till the 2oth December for £33 per person for 3 courses. You have 5 options for a starter, including a vegan pigs in blanket, homemade soup, pigs in blankets, chicken liver pate, and prawn cocktail. You have the choice of 4 mains including fish, turkey, beef and lentil nut roast. You also get the choice of 4 desserts including raspberry tart, sticky toffee pudding, fruit crumble, and chocolate orange brownie. You can even get a coffee and mince pie to finish off the meal for an extra £5. Nova Scotia advise that the whole 3 courses should take around 2 hours so the last servings of the night is 8pm, but you can request to have your table for longer if you let them know at the time of booking. In between our mains and desserts, we did play a whole venue pass the parcel which was absolutely hilarious.
Steph is vegan so they got the vegan pigs in blankets for starters which were vegan sausages wrapped in courgette ribbons which they really liked and I even tried a small bit and found them surprisingly tasty (and that's coming from a fussy eater!). For their main, they went for the lentil nut roast. This is vegan without the Yorkshire pudding or veggie with it, unfortunately despite informing them they were vegan, they did bring out their menu with a Yorkshire pudding but Steph was really nice about it. They did say that the vegetables served with the main could have done with more seasoning but they reported that they usually season their veggies a lot when they cook roasts at home. To finish it off they had the raspberry tart with vegan ice cream which was really nice.
I really fancied the look of the homemade lentil and sweet potato soup with warm bread so I went for that for my starter. I would say that the soup could have the option to be served in a smaller bowl to save waste cause the portion I was served would have been enough for me if I wasn't eating any other dishes that night but to have with 3 courses, it was quite a lot. I would have also preferred the option to have more of the warm bread with the soup cause I really love dipping crusty bread into soup. The soup itself did taste delicious and I'm actually looking for a similar recipe to make and store in my freezer for when I need a quick and easy dinners. For my main I went for the turkey which I haven't had turkey for several years (I usually go for Chicken at christmas) and I was surprised at how nice it was, I won't lie they did forget to bring mine out so I had to grab someone and then my main then got brought out so I was still trying to eat whilst everyone had finished and started playing pass the parcel. I loved the Yorkshire pudding, turkey, gravy, roasted potatoes and stuffing, they were by far my favourite! For my dessert I went for the mixed fruit crumble with custard as I absolutely love fruit crumble and this by far surpassed my expectations, it was so delicious and again there was more than enough food and I couldn't finish it all.
To compliment their Christmas food menu, they have a Christmas themed cocktail menu to match and I think between us both we pretty much tried the entire cocktail menu. My favourites have got to be the after eight cocktail and the rosemary and orange spritz, the after eight cocktail was the perfect finisher to the meal and it even included chocolate that Nova Scotia had made themselves. Overall it was such a fun night and we had such a fun night and as always the team at Nova Scotia are honestly some of the nicest people you will meet!
