An Introduction To Hourglass Cosmetics

Hourglass Cosmetics, Hourglass Liverpool, John Lewis Liverpool, beauty, beauty blogger, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger,

Last month, I finally got the chance to try out Hourglass Cosmetics as I was kindly invited in by the girls on the Liverpool John Lewis counter, before the invite I didn't have a clue that Hourglass Cosmetics had made the journey across the pond to the UK. I was invited in to the counter to get a makeover, learn all about Hourglass Cosmetics and try out the brand (and I may have left with several products).

Hourglass Cosmetics
Hourglass Cosmetics have been around since 2004 and since their launch they've been a cruelty-free brand and since December 2020 they've re-formulated their products to be fully vegan. They even celebrated this goal by launching their Confession Red 0 lipstick which is a bold red lipstick which is completely vegan (usually red lipsticks get their colour by using crushed carmine). You can get your hands on Hourglass Cosmetics online as well as via their counters in John Lewis.

We did everything from skincare right through to lips and finishing spray with solely Hourglass products. The Equilibrium skincare range is so lightweight and the perfect base for the makeup, particularly the Restoring Essence and the Instant Plumping Eye Mask were my favourites as they felt beautiful on my skin. Plus they also didn't break my skin out but left my skin feeling very hydrated. I've had fine lines around my eyes and dark bags since I was teenager so I found that when she used the Instant Plumping eye mask on my eyes, it was really cooling (it'd be perfect for Summer if you put it in the fridge before you apply it to make it even more cooler) and I found that the makeup actually sat really nicely around my eyes without clinging to any dry patches.

I normally shy away from stick foundations because of my drier skin, I thought they'd just pull at my dry skin and go all patchy. However Rachael convinced me that the Vanish Seamless Finish foundation stick would totally work for my skin and I'm glad to say she proved my doubts wrong because the base came out beautiful and surprisingly you can build up the coverage with the foundation stick so you can go as sheer or as full coverage as you want too. For anyone that hasn't seen a picture of me, I share a family resemblance with a milk bottle so imagine how hard it was being a pale teen getting into makeup was. Even now as makeup brands have started releasing paler shades of foundation, I still sometimes struggle and when I find a foundation that matches me, I'm usually the palest shade that they offer. However in the Hourglass Vanish foundation sticks, I'm actually the second palest shade which is a little celebration for me. After my makeover, Rachael kindly gave me a little sample of the foundation stick to try at home and honestly I've loved using it as an all over base or as a spot concealer for work to cover my bags and any breakouts.

I didn't go into the makeover with a specific look in mind so I basically gave Rachael free rein to do whatever look she felt like doing. For this makeover, she decided to go for a neutral daytime glam look which I was excited for because I really wanted to test out the Scattered Light glitter eyeshadows because if you haven't seen them, they are the most beautiful glitter eyeshadows that can be built up from a light wash of colour to an opaque glitter bomb look. I definitely have my eyes on a couple of different shades of these shadows because they give the most beautiful look and I love that they can be used in several different ways cause on my lazy makeup days I love putting a little wash of a shimmery eyeshadow just to add a bit of brightness to my eyes.

Overall I'm really impressed with Hourglass Cosmetics, I genuinely felt like I wasn't even wearing anything. The makeup was so lightweight and breathable, I actually nearly rubbed my makeup off on more than one occasion. I had my makeup done around lunchtime and even at midnight when I was winding down and getting ready for bed, my makeup still looked perfect. There was no oiliness, patchiness, smudging or wearing away. I remember years ago watching youtube videos with people showing the Hourglass palettes and when I was having my makeover they actually had an offer on their Ambient Lighting palettes from Christmas so I of course had to leave with one of those as well as one of their Vanish foundation sticks.
