Behind The Brand | Lauren Iles Coaching

Danielle Levy, Lauren Iles, Lauren Iles Coaching, life coaching, lifestyle blogger, Wirral blogger, Liverpool blogger,

I started my Behind The Brand/Blogger series way back in 2016 and recently my love for it has been reignited so I've decided to bring it back. Now I'm not making any promises that I'm going to have it on a regular schedule but I have got quite a few lined up for the rest of 2020 and I'm so excited to say that I'm coming back with a bang featuring the lovely Lauren Iles who has answered some burning questions about her business and life coaching from myself and my followers!

1 ~ Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Lauren of Lauren Iles Coaching. Thank you for taking the time to read my feature in Behind The Brand! I'm 41, and living by the sea in Morecambe, North West UK. I've been married to my husband Tom for 6 years and we have our beautiful daughter Lily Rose, who is 4 and has just started school. How time flies! I'm very happy to say I love my work, and I love spending time with my family and friends. This year has definitely been an interesting one hasn't it?! For all sorts of reasons. For me, I've found it's given me a chance to re-evaluate my priorities and what perhaps I've taken for granted along the way. I've also learnt that I really enjoy spending time to myself. So, when I'm not busy with work, wife and mummy life, you'll find me enjoying reading, catching up with a bit of Netflix (I've just finished The Home Edit which I loved!), taking a long hot soak in the bath and finding a spot on the beach to have a quiet coffee and a stroll.

2 ~ What's the story behind how Lauren Iles Coaching was created?
It really feels like I've got here down a very long and winding road, with a few bumps and wrong turns along the way for sure! However, all a useful learning process and I'm finally here and so happy to have created my business during lockdown earlier this year. I'm most definitely in the right place! I come from a background studying Communication and from there went on to become a secondary English teacher. I've also gained experience in the business world prior to setting up my own. After having my daughter, I decided that I didn't want to remain in education. I knew that coaching would be a perfect fit for my interest in personal learning and development and also, to enhance my strengths and skillset. After completing my training, I set up my business Lauren Iles Coaching. I am very grateful to all of my clients, working with them has made me see just how incredibly important this work is. It is so rewarding to see people literally bloom in front of your eyes and start to see themselves and their life with a fresh new perspective. I’m feeling really curious and excited as to where it will take me. I love helping clients navigate this thing called life, and in the meantime learning how to navigate my own too!

3 ~ Did you do a life coaching course before you started your business?
I come from an educational/teaching background so I did my Coaching Training with a consultancy called Independent Coaching, Manchester, who specialise in Leadership and Performance Coaching Skills in schools. At the time I thought I’d be working within education, but as I was building up my portfolio of clients it became clear that what I loved was working with people and their life. The coaching skills I studied were easily transferable, and I quickly learnt that exploring our personal leadership and performance is a very powerful process and means clients see the benefits straight away. Life can seem very different pretty quickly!

4 ~ For those aspiring life coaches out there, how would you recommend they get into it?
Firstly, take the time to explore your options in terms of courses and studying. Although the principles of coaching are similar, there are differences in terms of approach, techniques and methods. It’s really worth doing your research and finding the course/study programme that feels like the best fit for you and the type of clients you would like to serve. I’d also highly recommend that you experience coaching for yourself, perhaps even with several coaches, to help gain a better understanding and insight in terms of the process. Learning through experience is invaluable.

5 ~ What are your goals for the next 12 months?
Ooh I like this question! It’s really made me think about how my goal setting process has changed. For me personally, I am learning to listen to myself more and recognise that I don’t work particularly well when I put longer term goals in place (see the next question!). My goals are definitely roughly formed, but I work more on trusting in having a sense of moving forward towards something, whether that be a business or a more personal goal. I find things can flow and change so quickly, that actually setting specific goals can get in the way of a natural and organic progression. That being said, my biggest goal for the next 12 months is to learn to tune into my intuition more and let that be my guide. I’m really excited to see where the next 12 months will take me, I love the sense of freedom with that and letting things unfold. My biggest priority is to be present and true to myself, my family, my business and my clients.

6 ~ What's a piece of advice you'd give to anyone?
Learn how to develop your listening skills. And I mean REALLY listen. To others, but more importantly to yourself. We have the best intuitive internal compass built inside us but we very often choose to ignore it and it gets us into all sorts of situations and problems! It’s all about being accountable to yourself and owning your decisions and choices. When you learn how to tune in and listen, it really is a game changer and a skill that serves you well in all areas of your life.
