With the start of the new year comes everyone’s resolution to be healthier, eat better or make sure they get their 5 a day. I know I for one don’t get my 5 a day in on a daily basis, I’m good if I get them on 3 out of the 7 days. This past week I’ve been trying to improve my diet by using smoothies to add more fruit & veg into my daily diet as a way to up my 5 a day.

I'm sure that you will have all at some point have seen advertisements from the NHS about eating your 5 a day which if you have seen it you will know that it tells you that having 5 portions of fruit and vegetables has been shown to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and even some cancers. As a nurse, I for one should know and be better at getting more fruits and veggies into my diet but working 13/14 hour shifts and trying to eat healthier is work! Thankfully I found The Honestly Good Smoothie Company which has allowed me to get more fruit and veggies into my diet in a super easy way.

The Honestly Good Smoothie Company
The Honestly Good Smoothie Company creation was inspired when the creator Vikesh was inspired by his mother to create the company. Upon suffering digestive issues, Vikesh's mum came to his rescue providing him with smoothies packed with veggies and superfoods every morning. However, as what often happens to many people his life became too busy for the extra work of cleaning, peeling and making a smoothie every morning that the morning smoothies soon stopped, this then inspired Vikesh to stop his 9-to-5 and create his own company. They strive to source as many of their ingredients as possible from inside the UK, however our pretty much unreliable weather means that some of the more exotic ingredients need to be sourced further a sea but always sourced from carefully selected Soil Association Certified Organic Suppliers. I love that for every box of prepared smoothies they send out, they actually donate 2 meals to those in need.

There are a choice of 4 different subscription boxes that you can choose from, a variety box, the honestly green box, the honestly veggie box, and the honestly fruity box. On the page where you can pick your box, it actually lets you know what is in each box so you can get an idea of the smoothies and the ingredients in each box. Once you've decided what box you want you then get to choose whether you want it weekly, fortnightly or monthly as well as how many smoothies you want per delivery (5 or 10). The smoothies are £4.50 if you order 5 smoothies at a time or £3.75 if you order 10 at a time. The box gets delivered on either Monday or Saturday.

My Experience
My box of smoothies arrived super quickly and everything came packaged so well. It all arrived safely and kept perfectly chilled so they can go back into your freezer and are ready to use during the week. Inside my box, I was kindly given a custom Honestly Good Smoothie Co mason jar cup, reusable straw and information booklet that told me all about them and the recycling scheme they offer.

I tried out 5 smoothies over a work week to see how much quicker and easier it was as well as how much better I felt by adding in more fruits and veggies into my diet. I'm not really a breakfast person so I decided to use it every day as my breakfast which I loved as it was super quick and easy and I could even do it whilst half asleep! When your smoothie box arrives all you have to do is take the pouches out and store them in your freezer until you are ready to use them. Every morning all I had to do was take the pouch out of the freezer and leave it for a few minutes for the contents to soften so they blend easily without any big lumps in it and add 300mls of liquid then you only need to blend it up for 30 seconds and you've got the perfect smoothie.

My all-time favourite smoothies from the box were the vitamin sea one and the mint choc chip one. In the mornings when I was a bit more awake or had a bit more time, I loved adding a little less liquid and making them into a smoothie bowl with loads of fresh fruit on top. Getting more fruit and vegetables in my diet this week has really made such a big difference in my mood and energy levels this week. So much so that it's something that I'm going to keep up now that my test trial is finished, going forward I'm going to reuse the bags my smoothie packs came in to make some of my own freezer smoothie packs. The Honestly Good Smoothie Company also offer a returning your packaging scheme where you can print off a shipping label and send back all the woolly liners that came in the box to allow them to be a more eco-conscious business.

One thing I do wish that they offered a pick your own box service so that you could choose the ones you like the best and custom make your own box. But I imagine that as the business grows and grows this may possibly be something they might offer. I loved trying out the smoothie subscription service, it's something I'll definitely be looking at doing going forward as a way to get me eating breakfast and to inject more fruits and veggies into my diet.
