My Winter Skincare Routine

I can't believe how cold it's gotten at the minute and between that and the dry air in work, my poor skin has been suffering with it so much and I'm sure that there's a couple of you all reading that are going through the same thing so I thought for today's Blogmas I would share with you all what I've been putting on my face morning and night to try and soothe my poor dry skin.

Due to all the cold weather I've been changing up my skincare to a more intensive routine to help combat the dry skin and pump some much need moisture back into my skin. Whilst I love trying out 'X' skincare for a month to see how the products work together and how they solely impact my skin, my day to day routine is some of my favourites. So where I work there are no windows and it's all controlled by air-con and heating and when you factor in that I probably don't drink half as much water as I should, you can imagine how dry my skin must feel after a 13-hour shift in a full face of makeup.

As soon as I wake up I start my skincare routine by washing my face with the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel which is a super gentle cleanser that gets rid of dirt, impurities and excess oil without stripping my skin of its moisture (I feel ashamed to admit that I didn't use to like cleansers unless it gave me squeaky, dry feeling cause I felt like it wasn't working). Before I even think about putting any makeup on my skin, I have to make sure my skincare base is battling away at that dry skin cause that makeup has got to sit on my face from 6am till 9pm when I get back home to take it off so it has to be able to help my skin for about 15 hours which is a tough feat on a good day! My go-to eye cream at the minute is This Works My Wrinkles Eye Repair, I have done a blog post solely dedicated to these products but I love using this under my makeup as it gives me the perfect base and helps to fight fine lines.

Before I pop on my primer and foundation, I use the Skin Hydrating Booster as a serum which is packed with hyaluronic acid among other great ingredients which works deeper in my skin to help improve hydration and reduce fine lines caused by dehydration (cause we all know that I don't drink nearly enough water in work!). It's so lightweight and my skin just drinks it up, I love that you can use it on its own before moisturiser or you can add it into your usual moisturiser for an added hydration boost. Whilst I've loved using the Skin Smoothing Cream, I've had to switch to a more hydrating moisturiser as the weather is getting colder and colder so I've switched over to the Intensive Moisture Balance which is a super nourishing moisturiser which is supposed to go 10 layers deep into your skin to truly nourish. I've noticed I've started to get dry patches on my forehead and the outside of my cheeks and these two have completely solved that issue for me! At the minute, I've been using the My Clarins facial mist after I've applied my moisturiser for an extra hit of hydration before I pack on my makeup for the day. I love that the mist is super fine and smells incredible, my skin just drinks it up. It's sadly coming to the end of it's run so I'm on the hunt for another great spray for when this one is finished.

At the end of a very long day, it's time to get all the makeup and grime out of my skin. I'm a big fan of double cleansing so I've been using the PreCleanse from Dermalogica which is an oil that melts away the toughest of waterproof mascaras whilst being gentle on my skin and another big plus is that it doesn't irritate my eyes. I then again use the Special Cleansing Gel to help get rid of any little bits of dirt, oil or makeup left on my makeup after using the oil.

I've been loving having a dedicated eye cream for night and day, of an evening I've been using the This Works My Wrinkles Tired Eyes and massaging it in with my jade facial tool from ARK Skincare, the best bit is leaving the jade tool in the fridge so that it's extra cooling when you use it with the eye cream. I do love giving myself a little pamper of an evening as a way of winding down before bed after a hectic day. I then use the same serum and moisturiser again but I use a bit of a heavier hand with the moisturiser so that it acts as a little overnight hydration mask whilst I'm sleeping.

As you all probably know from all my blog posts this year but I'm a big fan of testing out skincare so I'm always changing it up and changing out products for different ones depending on what works for my skin at that point. I'm a big fan of changing my products up so that my skin doesn't get too used to it so even the little changes I make season to season keeps my skin on its toes. I suffer from awful dry lips so the very last things I do before going to bed is to use a Lush lip scrub because their sugar scrubs smell and taste amazing and load my lips up with lip balm to hydrate my lips overnight.
