I am slowly dipping my feet into reviewing more and more places on my side of the water and I am back with another restaurant review for the new menu launches for the Botanist Chester. I don't think I've ever visited one of their locations before and having a sneak peek at the new menu before I visited I was really excited to head down and let you know all about it.

A few weeks back myself and my mum took an afternoon wander around Chester and a visit to The Botanist to check out their new menu launches. I love heading to Chester as it's such a gorgeous place to visit and they have some great places not only to shop but incredible places to get something to eat whilst you're there. The Botanist is a beautifully unique place to visit, whether you are coming for lunch, dinner or even an evening of cocktails with the girls, they've got locations across the UK so there is somewhere nearby for you to go and try their menu yourselves!

Having never visited before, there was some minor confusion with us actually getting there (google maps tried to make us keep walking us in circles and was trying to take us 10 minutes further than we needed to go!) and when we arrived we got sent upstairs by the bar staff to have to come back downstairs to see the hostess for the restaurant part but we finally made it safely to our table with menus in hand. If it is your first time visiting The Botanist, the whole upstairs is the restaurant and you even get a view of the bar downstairs, then downstairs there is seating for the bar and even has some outdoor seating which would be perfect for an evening of cocktails in the summer!

To kick off the meal, we decided to try a couple of cocktails off the very extensive menu. I went for the amazing Miracle Bulb and my mum went for the Apricot and Peach Smash. The Miracle Bulb was incredible, it made you feel like a Botanist creating the cocktail yourself, the drinks comes in two parts that you mix together in the glass, topped with a singular round ice cube. It contained Empress 1908 gin, sake, apple liqueurs as well as lemonade, I loved this one but I'm not going to lie it didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it at all which could be dangerous after an evening of them! The Apricot and Peach smash came with apricot and peach liqueurs, Woodford reserve, bitters, apricot puree and lemon juice, all served in what looked like a mini old-time medicine bottle. I got to try a little bit of hers which again was delicious, really nice and sweet. They've got so many cocktails to choose from but even if you've got your own favourite that isn't on the menu, the bartenders are more than happy to make it for you. I loved that they even had a cocktail which donated some money to the Tim Bacon foundation and even came in a cute koala cup which you could keep for £2 for the whole money being donated to the foundation.

I'm not normally a three courses for dinner girl, in fact it's actually rare that although I have a sweet tooth, I never normally end up having dessert after dinner so to begin our meal me and mum decided to spilt a starter cause I don't think I could have finish all three courses on my own, we went for cheesy garlic which oh my word was the best cheesy garlic bread I've ever tried and I'm still dreaming about it to this day. I'd say that it's definitely a sharing starter as you get a whole loaf absolutely loaded with cheese in a cute mini picnic basket. It seemed to take us forever to decide what we wanted to have for our mains, there was just so much choice on the menu (something that I absolutely love to say as a fussy eater!), we ended up both going for the new hanging kebabs. They've got a hanging kebab for everyone, everything from chicken and duck to halloumi and tofurkey sausage, each with its own delicious sauce to compliment it. We got the lamb kofta kebab and the crispy halloumi which both were so delicious and perfectly cooked, I need to head back and get the halloumi one again!

Having spotted their desserts on social media, I couldn't finish my visit without trying them out! Whilst we were tempted to try out the dessert sharing platter because well Nutella doughnuts sound incredible, but I couldn't not try out the chocolate chip cookie dough with crumbled oreo's on top. It was amazing, I loved the chocolate chips and the added treat of the oreo's and the perfect sweet treat at the end of the meal. My mum ended up choosing the apple and cherry crumble which was so yummy and is perfect for this time of year!

I loved trying out the new menu at The Botanist, everything from the cocktails to the food was incredible and everyone at the Chester branch was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much for having me and I can't wait to head back and try out even more of the new menu!

Have you tried The Botanist yet?

Speak to you next time!
