As we're heading into the weekend, it's time to start looking forward to the Sunday roast dinner! As we come into autumn/winter, roast dinners on a Sunday have become a staple in my family so being invited to come and try out the new Sunday roast sharing platter at Il Forno, you know I had to go!

This September, Il Forno started serving roast dinners and an amazing roast dinner sharing platter and with the colder, wet weather starting to come in, a Sunday roast dinner is the perfect way to warm up! Whilst you can get the roast dinner for £17.50 which includes your choice of one of the fours meats on offer as well as sides and the dessert of the day, I wanted to share with you the new roast dinner sharing platter for two.

I was invited in to try out the sharing platter on a cold, rainy day a few weeks back so I brought along my mum and we decided to make a little day of it. We picked the perfect time to come in as it started to get busy as we got halfway through our meal and it's not hard to see why they're so popular! Whilst I would have loved to try the roast with a bottle of house red, but I stupidly decided to drive in on the day so we went for some hot drinks to help warm us up with all the rain outside.

The Sunday roast sharing platter comes with more than enough for two people, honestly, you could comfortably feed three people! The platter comes for £30 between two people with a bottle of house wine for an extra £15. For those meat lovers among us, you'll be happy to hear that with the sharing platter you get four different meat options, chicken, beef sirloin, lamb shoulder and porchetta. Unfortunately, there isn't a vegetarian version of their amazing Sunday roast but I can only imagine that as they grow in popularity they'll expand it to include some vegetarian options! Alongside the incredible selection of meat, you get giant (yes giant!) Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, parsnips, tenderstem broccoli and chantilly carrots with lashes of gravy.

Now it's safe to say that when my mum's partner cooks a roast dinner, he makes man-sized portions for everyone so I'm used to pretty large Sunday roasts and I was surprised how quickly I got full but both myself and my mum loved it. I am still dying to know how they did their parsnips, they were both crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside! I'm a huge fan of Yorkshire puddings so I loved seeing the giant ones on the side and the homemade gravy was honestly incredible (if it didn't take so long, I'd probably make my own gravy!). Not only can you get the standard roast dinner, but you can also get some amazing sides to go alongside it. I couldn't come to an Italian restaurant and not get the mac and cheese as a side, it was one the best mac and cheese's that I've ever had! We also decided to try the pigs in blankets which definitely made us start thinking of Christmas (especially as we were going to do a bit of early Christmas shopping!).

I remember back when I last visited Il Forno to try out their Christmas party menu, the desserts completely blew us out of the water. This time we decided to go for the Fian Cioccolato and the banana split, both of which was to die for, in fact when my mums banana split came out she was surprised at how big it was but it was that good she finished the whole thing! I thought the Fian Cioccolato was a delicious ending to the roast, a small hit of chocolate and vanilla.

Are you heading to Il Forno this weekend?

Speak to you next time!
