Having An Absolutely Fabulous Gin Tasting

Would you say no to an evening of drinking gin and learning the perfect mixers for different gin brands? I feel like this year is when I've really gotten into gin and gin cocktails so of course when the email dropped into my inbox inviting me along to a gin tasting event with the Fabulous Gin Company, I had to make sure I could fit it in the diary!

The Fabulous Gin Company currently have two gins on offer, a standard London dry gin and a pink gin. Personally, my favourite is the pink gin, is only 7 calories for a 25ml measure, is really refreshing, made from all natural products and tastes of strawberry laces. I mean you'd be foolish not to try it!

The Absolutely Fabulous Gin Festival was hosted in the beautiful Liver Building with the room having a balcony with a stunning view overlooking the River Mersey which if you haven't seen the beautiful skyline at sunset, I highly suggest you do! The two lovely ladies behind the Fabulous Gin Company have been hosting the gin festival for several years now and have most recently moved from just hosting gin events to actually creating their own gin.

I arrived to the gin tasting event with the wonderful Laura and we were treated to a delicious gin spritzer and given the chance to wander around, take in the views and talk to the women behind the Fabulous Gin Company before the gin tasting got started. Once we'd all found out seats and eyed up the gin we'd be trying it was time to get started. Not only were the team from the Fabulous Gin Company, but there was also quite the gin expert there from Fever-Tree to educate us on the origin of gins, the differences in certain gins and the main four gin makers who kicked off the gin revolution. I had no idea that back in the day pretty much every man, woman and child (yes child!) drank gin like it was going out of fashion. Because of which, laws came into place to restrict people's ability to be able to make it at home.

Throughout the night, not only did we get the chance to try out 4 different types of gin and learnt the best mixers and garnishes to pair with it, but we were also talked through the background of the different gin brands and given more weird and wonderful gin facts. When it comes to gin, my favourites are definitely the flavoured ones such as pink gins or rhubarb flavoured gin. I find the ones that are flavoured are more delicious and refreshing and of course mixed with the Fever-Tree tonics are the perfect accompaniment, I'm definitely not the type of person that can have my gin with lemonade!

The night was such a lovely evening, it was full of fun and plenty of laughter. The Absolutely Fabulous Gin Festivals happen several times a year, there's even a Christmas one coming up which I'm really excited for! It's such a fun evening and would be the perfect way to spend the evening with some of your besties.

What's your favourite type of gin?

Speak to you next time!
