How I Pamper Myself As A Nurse

Since becoming unwell last year I've realised how much I've been burning the candle at both ends and truly suffering for it. This year I've been really making an effort to put days in the diary where I just have a pamper and properly look after myself so I thought I would share with you all how I pamper myself especially after I've had a very hard shift at work!

Working back to back long shifts for the past couple of years has truly made me appreciate taking some time out to look after myself and it's something that I definitely don't do enough of! A lot of the ways that I pamper and make time for myself can be used by anyone so I thought I would share it all with you, whether you are a new mum, a nurse or fellow healthcare worker, a 9-5 worker, or someone just in need of a pamper.

Now when and how I pamper myself all depends on how exhausted I feel after work or how mentally draining my shift has been, my goal is to try and have at least one pamper day a week. If I've got more time during the evening, I'll treat myself to a hot bubble bath and face mask with some of my favourite bath bombs from Lush but if I'm on shift the next day and really need to spend some time on me, I'll have a really long, hot shower and treat myself to a hair mask and sometimes even a face mask whilst I'm in there. 

My skin gets a real battering at work, for one I definitely don't drink enough water and the dry air from the heating/air con all makes my skin feel zapped of any moisture so I like to make sure that I really take care of not only of my face but also my body as well. I like to give my skin a deep clean and moisturise before bed as well as using my thick body butter to put some much needed moisture back into my skin. I wash my hands and use alcohol gel about a million times in a shift so you can only imagine how dry my hands are at the end of the day, I always have a hand cream and lip balm in my pocket at all times. At the minute I've been loving this Best Defence Summer Dreams hand & nail cream from Leighton Denny, it comes in a small enough tube that I can fit it into my scrub pocket without taking up too much room. It melts into my skin so quickly that I'm not worried about using it at work where I'm not long putting on gloves, washing my hands or opening packaging so it being able to melt straight into my skin is a huge winner in my book. I love putting a thicker layer on and wearing it overnight under a pair of cotton gloves as more of a hand mask.

I always use to be a tv before bed girl, but since switching from nights to days I've found that if I spend time watching telly before bed I end up wide awake and unable to drift off to sleep until the early hours. I've made more of an effort to do some light yoga/stretching and gotten back into reading before bed as a way to wind down. I don't know about anyone else but I have to be really careful and set myself a limit when reading before bed because I have been known to accidentally stay up all night reading because I got way too invested in a book.
