The Shakespeare Pub Liverpool

With all this beautiful sunny weather at the minute, pub lunches with friends or family are just what the doctor ordered! Last week I got the chance to visit the newly renovated Shakespeare Pub in Liverpool with my mum, growing up in a single parent household we used to go for a pub lunch/dinner for special occasions so it really brought back memories from my childhood going to the pub with her.

The Shakespeare pub is tucked away in Williamson Square, it's in the perfect place for lunch or dinner during a day of shopping but equally as perfect as somewhere to go for dinner and some drinks before the cinema or a visit to the theatre! The inside has recently been renovated and I must say it looks fab inside. When you walk in the pub has been split into a proper pub downstairs and the restaurant part is up a couple of flights of stairs, inside the interior is a beautiful royal blue colour with a mixture of booths and tables with floor to ceiling windows.

Unfortunately, at the time of my visit, I was on antibiotics as I got my first UTI at 26 (yes, you read that right!) so I wasn't able to try out the cocktails and particularly the gin and tonics so I ended up going for a simple diet coke. For starters, we decided to share the halloumi fries with sriracha mayo which can I point out my mum tried and loved the sriracha mayo and she won't even have pepper on food because she finds it too spicy so I was surprised beyond belief with that one! I am a huge fan of halloumi fries and when I see them on a menu, you can bet that I am going to get them so I couldn't wait to introduce my mum to them and she loved them, in fact she liked them that much that she ate almost all of them herself with lashings of sriracha mayo.

I was surprised how many mains there was on the menu that I was actually interested in trying (fussy eater alert!). After much deliberation, I decided to go for the traditional fish and chips and my mum decided to go for the chicken pot pie. Initially, I thought there should have been more chips with the fish and chips but as I was eating it I was surprised at how filling it actually was and the portion size was just right! I loved the way the chicken pot pie came plated up in a little metal dish with the filling slightly exposed under the puff pastry lid with a side of chips. When asking my mum for a mini review of her main, she told me how delicious the pie was and incredibly filling.

Whilst they only have a small dessert menu, they all sounded great. I'm not going to lie, I've been dreaming about trying out the Kinder Bueno cheesecake and I think I'm going to have to go back very soon to try out the cheesecake and cocktails. Both myself and my mum decided to go for a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam, I was incredibly surprised at how big the scones were when they came. They look small in my photos on the slate plate but they legit were the size of my palm and let's face it you can't really get scones wrong!

I loved my little visit to The Shakespeare pub and it's definitely going to be on my go-to list for places to eat before events or the cinema and whilst out shopping, I can't wait to go back for the cheesecake, halloumi fries and gin and tonics.

Have you visited The Shakespeare pub before?

Speak to you next time!
