Battle Of The Beauty Boxes | Roccabox Vs Birchbox

Danielle Levy, Roccabox, Birchbox, Battle of the beauty boxes, beauty blogger, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger,

It's that time of the month again....beauty box time! I love using beauty boxes as a way to find new amazing brands or even using them to push myself outside my beauty arena and try some new shades or products that I never would have picked up. I can't believe that we're already 5 months into 2019, how has it gone that fast already?! May is the time to say goodbye to the rainy weather and to look forward to some sunshine.

Birchbox
This month's Birchbox is all about new discoveries and trying something new, I always like to try some new in my life (whether that be beauty, life, fitness wise) at this time of year so this box is perfect for me! Birchbox contains 5 products from more well-known brands to more unique independent brands, all for only for £12.95 a month.

Lord & Berry is a brand that I've heard about a couple of times and I believe has been around for a while now. This month they've included the Vintage Rose lip liner that is supposed to be a water-resistant and blendable formula that lasts all day even through those giant cups of coffee we all need right now! The Vintage Rose shade is a gorgeous deep pink colour which is perfect for me and will go with a lot of the lip colours I already have. Even trying it on the back of my hand, it's super soft (I hate really hard lip liners!) and blends with minimal pressure.

Next up is a little something from Nuxe, a brand I've heard of from fellow bloggers. This month's box contains the latest launch to their dry oil range, the Huile Prodigiuese Florale. I think I've received one of their original dry oils in a previous beauty box but I've never gotten around to using it but I am loving the scent of this new florale version. The multi-purpose oil is perfect for using on your face, body and hair and works the same as the normal oil to keep your skin and hair feeling super soft and radiant but this new launch leaves you with a beautiful floral and delicate scent. I feel like this is going to be the perfect handbag/travel companion being multi-use, smells amazing and a little goes a very long way! I want to keep this little version in my work bag to help keep my poor nurse's hands soft and smooth.

Beautaniq Beauty is a new brand that I've never heard of before, this month's box includes their Nourishing Mascara which is supposed to thicken, lengthen and volumise your lashes whilst keeping them nourished. It has almond oil (so be careful nut allergy sufferers) and oleic acid which is supposed to nourish, strengthen and lengthen your lashes. It's got a really big, soft hourglass shape wand which I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with. I have a million and one mascaras that I've trying to work my way through so I think that this one is going to be going to my mum for her to test out.

I'm not going to lie, picking up the Mimitika Face sunscreen out of the box I couldn't believe how light it was! This French sunscreen is a high level, broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays with SPF 50. Not only is it supposed to protect your skin from harmful rays but it's full of vitamin E to help deeply nourish your skin without sitting on top of your skin or leaving a white cast to your skin. Is it bad to admit that I don't regularly apply sunscreen when applying my skin care because a lot of my products have some spf protection in them.

Last up is the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, I feel like this has made its way around the blogosphere but I'm still yet to try it out. It's a pre-shampoo treatment which I have never tried out before, but I'm really intrigued to try out as it's supposed to help add manageability, hydration and shine to your hair as well as helping to reduce breakage. It hasn't got much of a scent but it's similar to a hair mask, you massage it into wet hair and leave it on for 10-20 minutes before washing it out and shampoo/condition as normal. I have heard a few mixed things, especially from close blogger friends so I can't wait to give this a go and see what I think of it.

Roccabox
This month theme is all about natural beauty and to encourage you to be a bit more au natural this month during the gorgeous sunny weather. All the products included in this month's box are all natural themed products to give you that introduction into natural beauty.

I am a huge fan of face masks (I have an entire deep draw in my Ikea towers just filled with face masks) so I was really excited to see face mask in this month's Roccabox, let alone a peel-off face mask (is there really anything more satisfying than peeling off those masks?!). In this month's box, they've included the T-Zone Charcoal & Bamboo Black Peel Off Mask which helps draw out any impurities, get rid of blackheads to unclog your pores and help to keep your skin clear. Whilst I wouldn't use an ultra purifying all over my face as I get really dry patches on my cheeks and outer edges of my forehead so the 10ml sample is perfect for me to use as a peel-off mask on my nose and chin where I get most of blackheads and congestion.

I remember trying the Polaar night cream from a previous beauty subscription box and I loved that so I was really intrigued to see a day version in this month's box. The Polaar Ice Source Hydrating Gely is more of a gel style moisturiser that literally melts into your skin within seconds without the telltale post-moisturiser glow and a little goes a very long way! It has a really nice fresh scent and when trying it on the back of my hand my skin feels instantly softer and mattified. I can't wait to give this a day at work test run and see how well it keeps my skin hydrated!

Douvall's is a completely new brand for me, this month we've got a full size of the Argan Lip & Cheek Colour Oil which is perfect for a tint of colour for those no-makeup days. I don't really wear cream products as I like to set everything down so it doesn't move all day but for those days where I just wear a bit of mascara, I can use this for a little hint of colour. The colour oil is supposed to be vegan, organic, paraben and parfum free.

This is the second time I've received the Daily Concepts Multi-Functional Soap Sponge Charcoal in a beauty subscription box and I'm not going to lie I don't really know how I feel about this being a sponge and a soap. It's supposed to be a detoxifying, exfoliating and a deep cleansing product, my mum is currently hugely into charcoal products so this one is definitely going to be given to her as I think she'll love it.

I've been highlighting my hair since my late teens and have had hair oils as a regular part of my haircare routine to try and keep my highlighted hair in such good condition. I love getting smaller bottles of hair oil as if I don't like them then I haven't got loads to get through so this smaller 25ml bottle is perfect! I've never tried macadamia oil in my hair before but I'm really intrigued to try the Natural World Macadamia Oil and to see how it helps to nourish my hair and help keep it frizz-free like my other hair oils.

Lastly, we've got a perfume sample from the new Kierin NYC perfume range from The Perfume Shop. The new range is a clean, cruelty-free and conscious perfume range that is hypoallergenic, free of parabens and phthalates as well as being made from recyclable materials. I got the scent Nitro Noir which is supposed to be floral, spicy, intoxicating and hypnotic with notes of Italian bergamot, pink berries, orris and patchouli. This is definitely outside what I normally pick for perfume but I actually really love it, I feel like for me it'd be the perfect evening/night event scent!
