Winding Down After A Hard Shift At Work

Danielle Levy, Panasonic, Panasonic wireless home cinema system, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger, lifestyle blogger,

Being a nurse often equals 12-13 hours of putting all my needs aside to take care of someone who has just had a major operation on their heart or lungs and are slowly recovering. As you can imagine when I finish work I need to spend some time to look after myself and unwind after a hard (physically and mentally) day's work, so I thought I would share with you my favourite ways to unwind after a hard shift.

For me, winding down after work has become an essential part of self-care for me. It helps me to de-stress and revive myself ready for another shift or even to re-energise myself ready for a day off. The number one thing that I have to do after work is get straight out of my uniform and into a hot shower, let's face it I'm a nurse and I deal with other people's bodily fluids on the daily so I just have to get home and fully cleanse everything and take off my makeup which has usually been on since 5am, bear in mind by the time I take it off its usually about 9.30/10pm! Once I'm in the fluffiest of pyjamas (or silkiest given the current hot weather we're experiencing), it's time to wind down in bed.

No matter how hot it gets, I always have to have a cup of tea in bed before winding down and of course when I'm winding down from work it's no different! I am really a 20-something girl if I didn't spend some time scrolling through social media before bed?! I use the time that my cup of tea is cooling from molten lava to just hot enough to drink without burning my mouth to do a last scroll through social media, watch people's stories on Instagram and check emails as usually when I'm in work I have next to no time to be on the phone. I also do a last minute scroll so that I don't spend all night on my phone and I actually have some screen-free time before bed, being on social media means I spend a hell of a lot of time on my phone so lately I've tried to limit the amount of time I actually spend on my phone especially of an evening.

Of course, the all-important part of my wind down routine is relaxing with a face mask on whilst I catch up on some of my favourite tv shows and movies because who doesn't need a bit of tv time after a long day?! I use my 3 shifts a week as a reminder to put on a face mask and enjoy catching up with my favourite movies. I love the new Panasonic wireless home cinema system's as I love the experience of going to the cinema but I'm too much of a homebody to go the cinema regularly and catch the latest films but the new home cinema system gives you the feeling on being in the cinema whilst being at home in your comfy pjs surrounded by your loved ones without that hefty price tag of you all going to the cinema.

Since the beginning of the year, I've been making more of a conscious effort to do this wind-down routine after every shift and it's really helped with my stress levels and anxiety. It really has made such a difference for me and it's made me want to have more of a morning and night (when I'm off) routine.

Do you have a wind-down routine for after work?

Speak to you next time!
