I feel like I was just sitting down writing this blog post for 2019 and now I'm doing it for 2020! I also feel like I want to set myself so many goals and I think this is where I've fallen short in previous years because I've tried to accomplish too much during the year (the downside of being a Capricorn) so for 2020 I'm going to try and dial it back a bit and not put too much pressure on myself.

For me, Christmas has truly arrived once I've visited Lush Liverpool and I was so excited this year as they've gone one step further by having an entire Christmas floor! I know I'm a bit late with this blog post and it was supposed to go in Blogmas but I couldn't not share it with you all even if it is a bit late.

Christmas is the well known time of year that we all treat ourselves but since joining Slimming World this Christmas has been a bit different and whilst I want to treat myself I've been learning the process of giving myself little treats that help motivate me to stay on plan whilst not going overboard. Now my treats aren't always sweet, I am a huge fan of savoury ones as well which is perfect for this time of year and I've become a huge fan of transforming my favourite naughty recipes into Slimming World friendly versions.

It wouldn't be Christmas on my blog without a blog post about festive afternoon tea! I feel like this is becoming a bit of an annual Christmas tradition for me to go for afternoon tea with either friends or family in December. I was very kindly invited to kick off my December with the lovely folks at The Shankly Hotel to try out their festive afternoon tea and you know that I had head along with my gorgeous friend Yasmina.

The week before last I was kindly invited along to a morning at Love Thy Neighbour to check out the new Sleep Eat Love, a luxury hostel that's opened a stone's throw away from Moorfields station. For those of you that might not know, I grew up in a single-parent household with two brothers (so you can imagine how much the food bill cost) so I have spent many a holiday in a private family hostel room in various places around the UK so I was really excited to head down to Sleep Eat Love to get behind the scenes and check it out.

Christmas is just around the corner and it's often a time that people forget about looking after themselves whilst they're busy treating other people and getting ready for Christmas. I know myself I don't take enough time out to just enjoy the festive season and I've definitely been physically and mentally feeling it! Luckily the lovely girls over the Clarins Chester just knew and invited me along to my local Skin Spa in Debenhams Chester to come and have a facial and check out the Christmas launches.

It's the beginning of December and I don't know about you but I'm thinking about all the Christmas parties and events that I've got coming up this month and trying to figure out what to wear that doesn't rinse my bank account dry. This month I've decided that I'm going to repurpose a couple of pieces I've gotten from Oasis Fashion and dress them in different ways to work for my different events.

I can't believe that it's already the 1st of December, this year has absolutely flown by and I'm kicking off this festive period and the start of my Christmas blog posts with my Christmas Gift Guide. I was going to spilt up my gift guides but I had too many Christmas blog post ideas so this one is going to be a long one so I would get yourself a big mug of tea (and maybe even a notebook to jot down your ideas) and we'll get into it.

Every day there are more and more new places to eat popping up in Liverpool and one thing I've noticed is that not many places offer cleaner alternatives for eating out (or home delivery) but Spitroast is completely turning that on its head with their locations in Liverpool and Ormskirk. A couple of weeks ago I headed to Smithdown to check out that location and let you all know what I thought of their menu.

As scary as it seems I've passed the mid-twenties border and have begun to head towards my thirties so I've been on a mission this year to take care of my skin. I've always had fine lines directly under my eyes, kind of below my eyelashes since I was literally a teenager and I've become to notice this year that I've begun to get a couple more wrinkles and I think it's time I need to start trying products to help prevent any more! It's like the lovely folks at This Works heard my struggles and offered to send me some of their new My Wrinkles range to test out.

Recently, I was gifted a Smart Peak Flow to try out to allow me to have a quick, easy and portable way to monitor my asthma and the ability of my lungs to expel air.

How often do we truly look after our skin?! As much as I love skincare products, I for one am guilty of not taking care of my skin. Thankfully Dermalogica has come to my rescue and invited me to take part in their #Skinfluencer program and sent me along some of their favourites (and best sellers) to try. I thought it was only right to feature them in another New In blog post (I've come to realise it's all skincare products at the moment in these New In posts but I'm hoping to include other types of products soon).

Thankfully last week I was invited along to the latest Icelolly Blog At The Beach event in Manchester and it's reignited my love for travelling.

I've come to realise that I work in the wrong career to have any sort of nighttime routine, some weeks I'm working 7am-8.30pm and some weeks I'm working 8pm-7.30am. I've found it so hard to get into any type of routine, that and my B12 deficiency have meant that recently I've become feel increasingly exhausted and I struggle with getting enough sleep to make me feel rested and energised for the day ahead. It's like the lovely folks at Benenox heard my struggles and kindly sent me some of their Overnight Recharge to try out.
Sleeping is as important to our bodies as eating, drinking and breathing are, yet it's something we all take for granted and the last thing we put as a priority. Not only is sleep good for your physical health, but it's also so important for your mental health. It's crazy to think that up to 1/3 of the population suffer with their sleep, whether that be the lack of or the quality of sleep or sleep problems. Having problems with your sleep can not only affect your mood and ability to concentrate but it can also cause problems with relationships (we've all snapped at someone we love when being exhausted or when we’ve had a bad nights sleep!), it can also affect your ability to stay awake and function throughout your day.
Now you don't need to preach to me about how important sleep is, between being a nurse and working in Critical Care (where proper quality sleep is important for recovery and to prevent delirium), I am ashamed at how rubbish my sleep is and how bad my sleep routine is and I need to make some serious changes as I've noticed how awful I've felt in the morning and on my days off that I use for blogging and editing videos, I also noticed how difficult it was for me to concentrate on tasks! I've come to notice that the worse my quality of sleep is, I find that my anxiety symptoms feel worse and overall my asthma feels worse.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been doing some testing with the Benenox Overnight Recharge. I've done a week of no changes, a week of actually trying to have a sleep routine and finally a week of a structured sleep routine and the overnight recharge liquid added in to see if it improves my sleep and the difference it makes the next day.
What It Is
The Benenox Overnight Recharge liquid is a flavoured food supplement that assists your body in having a better nights sleep and a more refreshed morning by supplementing your body's stored energy levels with glycogen. It works by helping to replenish the glycogen levels in your body whilst you sleep so that you can sleep peacefully as your body can start to wake itself up as these levels run low and you can remain restless throughout the rest of your sleep which affects the quality of your sleep and makes you feel awful in the morning.
It also contains sustamine which is two amino acids combined together that helps your liver store glycogen so it can slowly break it down over the course of the night and vitamin B6 which can help to reduced tiredness and fatigue whilst helping you feel more energised. It comes in two flavours, blackcurrant and lemon & ginger so there something for everyone's taste.
My Results
In my first week, I actually put it on paper how I've slept and it truly made me realise how bad my sleep patterns were. Some nights I spent as little as 3-4 hours asleep and most of it was spent tossing and turning and some of the nights (mainly the nights after my long day shifts) I can easily sleep up to 12, sometimes even 13 hours, although even those nights the quality of sleep I'm getting is awful so I'm left feeling like I've barely slept, a zombie and like I need to go back to bed for a couple of hours. I noticed that on my days off when I’m trying to get my blog & social media work done, I really struggle with concentration and not become distracted by silly things like my phone, notifications and social media. I also noticed how awful my bedtime routine actually was, because I struggled so much with concentration and staying on task, I ended up working late into the evening and then spending the rest of the evening watching tv or YouTube videos so I don’t spend any time actually winding myself down before bed.
In week 1, I tried to improve my bedtime routine and see if that improves my sleep quality. I made a lot more of an effort to be more consistent with what time I went to bed and get up. I’m not going to lie, I did feel a bit like a child giving myself a proper nighttime routine. Previously I could be going to bed as early 9.30am or as late as 1/2am and getting up anywhere between 8.30 and 11am. I also starting having a relaxing bath (or shower depending on the time I had before bed) and properly wound down with a book, instead of spending my time before bed either watching tv or playing on my phone. Whilst my sleep did improve slightly so I felt my sleep was becoming more consistent, although I still felt exhausted and was struggling to concentrate the next day.
On week 2, I continued with my consistent bedtime routine but added in the Benenox Overnight Recharge Liquid every night before bed. I tested out both having it straight (you have 15mls before bed) and mixing it with some hot water to make it more of a drink, I loved using the blackcurrant as a drink before bed. As with anything new, it took me a couple of days for me to start feeling it taking effect. I was surprised how little I woke up during the night since I started having the Benenox, after about day 3 of having it I noticed that the next day I was able to stay on task and I didn’t get that horrid 3pm, unable to concentrate feeling.
I’m shocked how different I felt the Monday after my trial finished and I’m definitely going to stocking up as the difference in my sleep has just been unreal. I’ve recommended it to my mum (bad sleep seems to run in the family) and all my friends at work cause it really helps me to hit the reset button whilst I’m asleep. I’d even highly recommend it to anyone that reads this that struggles with their sleep and how exhausted they feel the next day.
Have you ever tried anything like this?
Speak to you next time!

Being a nurse means pretty much the only jewellery you can wear on shift is a plain wedding band, that coupled with a nickel allergy often means that there's not much jewellery that I wear on my days off because it's hard to find pieces that I can actually wear and that I also like enough to wear day in, day out as you might be able to tell I'm a little bit lazy when it comes to fashion sometimes! Last week, I got to spend the afternoon with the lovely folks at Mococo to check out the launch of the new Thomas Sabo boutique in store and try on some the new pieces.

It's been a month or so since I was introduced to the new No7 Laboratories launches and I thought I would properly put their skincare to the test. I thought I would redesign my first impressions blog posts as a New In series on my blog as I don't know, I just like the sound of it and I like to think it makes it easier to find on my blog. This month, my new in skincare is from the lovely folks at No7!

It's that time of the month again, the battle of the beauty boxes! Like usual this month's battle is between Roccabox and Birchbox, please let me know if there is another beauty subscription box you would like to put to the battle. I can't believe we're halfway through the year already and this month both boxes are themed around different things and even include a collaboration with an amazing stationary brand.

As any of my longtime readers of this little blog may know, I am a big fan of Armani beauty so I thought it was about time that I did another Top Picks blog post all about my favourite bits from Armani and hopefully, you might find something that catches your eye that you want to try.

Whilst there are new things opening up in Liverpool all the time, it's not often when something so unique opens it's doors here. While I might class myself as a Liverpool blogger, I actually live on the other side of the water on the Wirral and remember growing up we used to go out as a family to New Brighton for a day of bowling, chips and walking along the waterfront so I was really excited to hear that a new place for bowling and cocktails was opening right in the centre of town!

Over the past month or so, I've been testing out the new My Clarins range from Clarins, back when I first got it I did a first impressions post and now that I've had a decent amount of time to test it out, I thought it was about time I came back with a review of the products I've got in the range. I haven't done reviews on my blog in a little while so I thought I would start a Hit or Miss series on my blog so that all my reviews are easy to find in one place.

With all this beautiful sunny weather at the minute, pub lunches with friends or family are just what the doctor ordered! Last week I got the chance to visit the newly renovated Shakespeare Pub in Liverpool with my mum, growing up in a single parent household we used to go for a pub lunch/dinner for special occasions so it really brought back memories from my childhood going to the pub with her.
