Visiting Manchester On A Budget

I don't know the last time I actual flew away somewhere but this year I've really gotten into city breaks and visiting places close to me for either a day or a couple of days. With Christmas being literal weeks away (it's come round so quickly!) this blog post couldn't be better timed, I decided a couple of weeks ago to visit Manchester which is a short ride away from me but this time I decided to do it on a budget so I could share it all with you so if you're running yourself ragged getting ready for the festive season you can treat yourself without breaking the bank.

I find that Manchester is the perfect little place for either a weekend away or a day out, I'm often going into the city centre for events (and a bit of shopping!) and I end up staying there all day to explore and visit some of my favourite places. Especially with the festive season quickly approaching I'm always hunting for ways to get events and spend the day there for a lot cheaper and thankfully Megabus have got everyone sorted, I can now get a 50-minute coach from Liverpool to Manchester return for only £6! Travelling over from Liverpool I've started to use my time travelling to catch up on emails, organise my diary or write blog posts and all of these definitely require a very large festive coffee!

I thought I would break down this blog post into things to do and places to eat because Manchester is filled to the brim with way too many amazing places to eat that I couldn't not include them and with the Christmas shopping period just around the corner, we all deserve to treat ourself to a day out that doesn't completely break the bank.

Christmas Markets
For me, no trip to Manchester at this time of year is complete without a trip to the Christmas markets. The cute little wooden chalets arrive 6 weeks before Christmas around Albert Square and are filled with everything incredible sweet treats and food to beautiful unique gifts to suit everyone on your Christmas list. There's definitely room to visit them on a trip to Manchester as more of the stalls run from about 10am till 9pm so you can fit in a quick trip there.

Northern Soul
I found out about this place last year at the Christmas markets because they had their own stall there and I actually found out that they had two locations in the city centre. Now if you are a fan of cheese, particularly grilled cheese or mac and cheese this is the place for you to visit! You only have to take one look at their Instagram page and you'll be dreaming of your next visit, their menu consists of incredible grilled cheeses, mac and cheese, nachos, normal or loaded fries, shakes or coffee and I think they've even starting to branch out into breakfasts now!

Manchester Arndale
I love heading towards the Manchester Arndale centre for a bit of shopping, not only have they got some of all time favourites places to shops like New Look, Lush and The Body Shop but they’ve also got a brilliant little market place that you can find some great pieces and more independent businesses.  There’s so many places to visit under their roof that I can see it being a hit with all family. I mean they have Lush where you can go and play with ba ooo th bombs to your hearts content and toy shops a plenty, it’s like a child’s dream!

Primark Friends Cafe
This is by far one of my favourite additions to Manchester, I’m a huge friends fan so you bet as soon as I found out that there would be a friends cafe I had to include it. Not only have they included the iconic friends couch so there is plenty of opportunities to recreate the friends cast look with your friends, they sell some amazing sweet treats. It’s situated perfectly in the HUGE Primark in the city centre, so it’s the perfect rest spot to put your feet up after some much deserved shopping!

John Rylands Library
We all need a moment of piece and calm and I can’t think of a better place than the John Rylands Library. It is like Harry Potter reincarnated, not only can you go and catch up with your favourite authors but you can go on tours, visit exhibitions and they even have a fab range of family friendly events. All of these completely free of charge so they’re great things to do if you’re trying to have a day out on a budget.

Manchester is such a brilliant place especially at this time of year to do on a budget. I find that whether you’re there with friends or visiting with family, there is something for everyone and whilst I’ve only mentioned a few things you can do for next to no money there’s even more you can do! With the price of a return coach journey being less than a coffee and sweet treat, there’s no reason not to treat yourself to a day out there!

What’s your favourite thing in Manchester?

Speak to you next time!

Danielle Levy,This Works, This Works skincare, This Works My Wrinkles range, beauty blogger, skincare, natural skincare, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger,

As scary as it seems I've passed the mid-twenties border and have begun to head towards my thirties so I've been on a mission this year to take care of my skin. I've always had fine lines directly under my eyes, kind of below my eyelashes since I was literally a teenager and I've become to notice this year that I've begun to get a couple more wrinkles and I think it's time I need to start trying products to help prevent any more! It's like the lovely folks at This Works heard my struggles and offered to send me some of their new My Wrinkles range to test out.

Being forever on the go, I end up feeling like a bit of a pack mule with all the things I shove in my bag and I end up with a very sore back by the end of the day from all the weight I've been lugging around. Improving My Sleep With Benenox

Danielle Levy, Benenox, Benenox Overnight Recharge, insomnia, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger, nurse blogger, health blogger,

I've come to realise that I work in the wrong career to have any sort of nighttime routine, some weeks I'm working 7am-8.30pm and some weeks I'm working 8pm-7.30am. I've found it so hard to get into any type of routine, that and my B12 deficiency have meant that recently I've become feel increasingly exhausted and I struggle with getting enough sleep to make me feel rested and energised for the day ahead. It's like the lovely folks at Benenox heard my struggles and kindly sent me some of their Overnight Recharge to try out.

Danielle Levy, Benenox, Benenox Overnight Recharge, insomnia, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger, nurse blogger, health blogger,

Sleeping is as important to our bodies as eating, drinking and breathing are, yet it's something we all take for granted and the last thing we put as a priority. Not only is sleep good for your physical health, but it's also so important for your mental health. It's crazy to think that up to 1/3 of the population suffer with their sleep, whether that be the lack of or the quality of sleep or sleep problems. Having problems with your sleep can not only affect your mood and ability to concentrate but it can also cause problems with relationships (we've all snapped at someone we love when being exhausted or when we’ve had a bad nights sleep!), it can also affect your ability to stay awake and function throughout your day.

Now you don't need to preach to me about how important sleep is, between being a nurse and working in Critical Care (where proper quality sleep is important for recovery and to prevent delirium), I am ashamed at how rubbish my sleep is and how bad my sleep routine is and I need to make some serious changes as I've noticed how awful I've felt in the morning and on my days off that I use for blogging and editing videos, I also noticed how difficult it was for me to concentrate on tasks! I've come to notice that the worse my quality of sleep is, I find that my anxiety symptoms feel worse and overall my asthma feels worse.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been doing some testing with the Benenox Overnight Recharge. I've done a week of no changes, a week of actually trying to have a sleep routine and finally a week of a structured sleep routine and the overnight recharge liquid added in to see if it improves my sleep and the difference it makes the next day.

What It Is
The Benenox Overnight Recharge liquid is a flavoured food supplement that assists your body in having a better nights sleep and a more refreshed morning by supplementing your body's stored energy levels with glycogen. It works by helping to replenish the glycogen levels in your body whilst you sleep so that you can sleep peacefully as your body can start to wake itself up as these levels run low and you can remain restless throughout the rest of your sleep which affects the quality of your sleep and makes you feel awful in the morning.

It also contains sustamine which is two amino acids combined together that helps your liver store glycogen so it can slowly break it down over the course of the night and vitamin B6 which can help to reduced tiredness and fatigue whilst helping you feel more energised. It comes in two flavours, blackcurrant and lemon & ginger so there something for everyone's taste.

My Results
In my first week, I actually put it on paper how I've slept and it truly made me realise how bad my sleep patterns were. Some nights I spent as little as 3-4 hours asleep and most of it was spent tossing and turning and some of the nights (mainly the nights after my long day shifts) I can easily sleep up to 12, sometimes even 13 hours, although even those nights the quality of sleep I'm getting is awful so I'm left feeling like I've barely slept, a zombie and like I need to go back to bed for a couple of hours. I noticed that on my days off when I’m trying to get my blog & social media work done, I really struggle with concentration and not become distracted by silly things like my phone, notifications and social media.  I also noticed how awful my bedtime routine actually was, because I struggled so much with concentration and staying on task, I ended up working late into the evening and then spending the rest of the evening watching tv or YouTube videos so I don’t spend any time actually winding myself down before bed.

In week 1, I tried to improve my bedtime routine and see if that improves my sleep quality. I made a lot more of an effort to be more consistent with what time I went to bed and get up. I’m not going to lie, I did feel a bit like a child giving myself a proper nighttime routine.  Previously I could be going to bed as early 9.30am or as late as 1/2am and getting up anywhere between 8.30 and 11am. I also starting having a relaxing bath (or shower depending on the time I had before bed) and properly wound down with a book, instead of spending my time before bed either watching tv or playing on my phone. Whilst my sleep did improve slightly so I felt my sleep was becoming more consistent, although I still felt exhausted and was struggling to concentrate the next day.

On week 2, I continued with my consistent bedtime routine but added in the Benenox Overnight Recharge Liquid every night before bed. I tested out both having it straight (you have 15mls before bed) and mixing it with some hot water to make it more of a drink, I loved using the blackcurrant as a drink before bed. As with anything new, it took me a couple of days for me to start feeling it taking effect. I was surprised how little I woke up during the night since I started having the Benenox, after about day 3 of having it I noticed that the next day I was able to stay on task and I didn’t get that horrid 3pm, unable to concentrate feeling.

I’m shocked how different I felt the Monday after my trial finished and I’m definitely going to stocking up as the difference in my sleep has just been unreal. I’ve recommended it to my mum (bad sleep seems to run in the family) and all my friends at work cause it really helps me to hit the reset button whilst I’m asleep. I’d even highly recommend it to anyone that reads this that struggles with their sleep and how exhausted they feel the next day.

Have you ever tried anything like this?

Speak to you next time!
*I was gifted these products from Benenox to test out. All opinions are honest and my own.

Being a nurse means pretty much the only jewellery you can wear on shift is a plain wedding band, that coupled with a nickel allergy often means that there's not much jewellery that I wear on my days off because it's hard to find pieces that I can actually wear and that I also like enough to wear day in, day out as you might be able to tell I'm a little bit lazy when it comes to fashion sometimes! Danielle Levy, Nurse, Nurses Day, Nurses Day 2019, I'm proud to be a nurse, Nurse blogger, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger,

Yesterday was officially nurses day so I'm a day late to celebrating but I wanted to get back into a routine with posting on my blog after a little while off so I thought I'd kick it off with a post that goes back to my blogging roots (for those that don't know my blog used to be mainly a nursing blog).

No7 Laboratories Liverpool Roadshow

Danielle Levy, No7, No7 Laboratories, No7 firming booster serum, No7 dark spot correcting serum, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger, beauty blogger, No7 skincare, No7 makeup,

Since being a teen and falling in love with makeup and skincare, I've loved shopping in Boots. One of the brands that I fell in love with was No7 and I never thought that one day a brand I grew up with would actually invite me to work with them! A couple of weeks ago, I visited their No7 Laboratories roadshow for the launch of two new additions to the range and I couldn't have been more excited.

I've been saying since I had my asthma attack last year that I wanted to get back to being fitness and working out and unfortunately just as I was getting my groove back I got a chest infection and like that I was back to the beginning again!

Stepping Into Spring With Rush Hair Liverpool

Danielle Levy, Rush, Rush Hair, Rush Hair Liverpool, Liverpool bloggers, Wirral Bloggers,

I feel like it's been forever since I've been at an event with my fellow Liverpool bloggers, thankfully the other week the lovely folks at RUSH Hair invited me to their first blogger's event and I couldn't wait to meet the girls at the salon and have a catch-up with some of my favourite bloggers whilst we get our hair done.

Winding Down After A Hard Shift At Work

Danielle Levy, Panasonic, Panasonic wireless home cinema system, Liverpool blogger, Wirral blogger, lifestyle blogger,

Being a nurse often equals 12-13 hours of putting all my needs aside to take care of someone who has just had a major operation on their heart or lungs and are slowly recovering. As you can imagine when I finish work I need to spend some time to look after myself and unwind after a hard (physically and mentally) day's work, so I thought I would share with you my favourite ways to unwind after a hard shift.
