It's not everyday me and my little blog get invited to fashion events and I'm making a big push lately to try incorporate more fashion into my blog so it was lovely to get the invite to head along to local designer Matthew O'Brien's Cathedral Couture fashion show in Chester and of course I had to take my blogger bestie and second in command Sam along with me!

Matthew O'Brien is not only a high fashion couture womenswear designer, he's also a TV personality being a judge and mentor on the Design Genius TV show. In his designs, he has an incredible eye for detail and focuses on the structure and shape of them as well as using uncovential fabrics to create incredible designs. Not only can you purchase his designs from his shop, you can also comission your very own one-of-a-kind Matthew O'Brien design.

This years show was Matthew's second in Chester Cathedral and let me tell you the cathedral was an incredible place to host a fashion show in, it was really dynamic to have gorgeous dresses against the ornate cathedral. While last year he had blossom trees line the catwalk, this year he went for a petal effect wall with chandeliers, wood and hanging floral displays creating a gorgeous ceiling effect by Springbank Flowers. The entire venue was scented by a recent obsession of mine, Owen Drew candles and I will be dedicating an entire blog post to Owen Drew because they are incredible! Right before the models started walking down the catwalk, Matthew had one more surprise with the amazing Sing Out gospel choir. The choir was incredible and I'd highly recommend checking them out as they offer such a wide variety of performances and you are guaranteed to be blown away by them.

The Cathedral Couture show revolved around the two collections Matthew was showing. Not only did he have a selection of his beautiful bridal and coutures gowns on show, he also had some of his bespoke and ready to wear pieces on the catwalk, giving you the best of both worlds. My favourites off the catwalk were from the couture evening gown section (of course, I'm like a magpie with anything glitzy!), the gold gown with the deep v neckline and the navy gown with the sweeping back detail are making me want to wear fancy glitzy couture gowns to everything or at least have them ready to go in my closet at a minutes notice!

Although it was a fashion show, the entire event was interwined with charity. Matthew had decided that all proceeds from the evening would be donated to the local charity Lady Taverners. The charity aims to give young people a sporting chance by using sports and education to enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people. Not only did they support the charity on the night but a member of the charity was even involved in walking the catwalk!

Who's your favourite local designer?

Speak to you next time!
