DIY ~ Granola Bars/ Flapjacks

At the beginning of 2015 I made one of my goals to get fit and eat healthy, which is why I have been playing about with different recipes and trying to make them healthier with less rubbish!

This is recipe is so easy and simple to make, I love making these on Sundays ready for the week ahead as these are the perfect snacks and you know exactly what is in them so they are great for if you are trying to be healthy or make better food choices! So here is what you'll need to make these delicious bars.

Ingredients~
125g Agave syrup or honey (whichever you prefer)
67g Brown sugar
5 tbsp of Coconut oil
230g Porridge oats
Cranberries
Raisins
Whatever extras you would like to add

Method~

  1. Preheat the oven to 150C and line any shape baking sheet or dish.
  2. Next you need to melt the honey/agave syrup, sugar and coconut oil until it's all combined and silky in texture.
  3. In a separate bowel pour in the oats and I also added in raisins and cranberries, it's completely up to you what you add to these, you could even put chocolate chips in there.
  4. Once happy with what will be in the bars then add the liquid mixture in once it's melted and mix it together until combined. I found it easier to use a metal spoon to mix it as everything just stuck to the wooden one!
  5. After everything is combined you can then pour it into your lined baking sheet and press it down as level as you can.
  6. All it needs is just 25 minutes in the oven or until it's golden brown or however you prefer you're bars to look like.
  7. Once it's cooked you only need to leave it to cool for 5-10 minutes (if you can wait that long) and then it's ready to be cut up, you can cut it any way you wish then it's ready to enjoy!
  8. I find these perfect for taking with me to placement or using as a snack for uni, if you don't make them too crunchy you can actually break them into smaller pieces and add them to yoghurt!
Once these are cut up I just store them in a little tupperware container and they seem to last forever!!

What are your favourite flapjack/granola bar recipes?
