I don't even remember the last time that I flew away somewhere nice and hot, I feel like I am forever in work, that and some parts of my family really do not like flying which really limits family holidays! I'm also a massive wimp so I couldn't ever imagine flying away some new completely on my own. I do like flying away somewhere hot, one for the time away to relax and most importantly you get to shop duty-free!!

Whenever I've been looking at travelling, 90% of the time I'm automatically suggested to fly from Manchester airport and I often forget that I've got an aiport pretty much on my doorstep. No more having to spend hours driving home or on a train after spending hours on a plane, now I can get home in less than an hour! A couple of weeks ago John Lennon Airport gave me a serious travelling bug after inviting me in to check out the brand new Duty-Free area. Over the past 18 months, the wonderful folks at John Lennon Aiport have been revamping their Duty-Free area in a £5m investment which has seen a redesign, expansion and a bunch of new amazing places for you to shop and eat. There are a bunch of new retailers in Duty-Free with a bunch of flight information screens dotted throughout so you never have to worry about missing your flight.

I love that as soon as you walk into Duty-Free from security you are met by somewhere to buy your euros, snacks for the plane and those last minute toiletries (or plug adaptor) that you know you've forgotten to pack. Just before World Duty Free, you are met with Accessorize and Traveller where you can get everything from poolside floaties to Vila and Havaianas at 20% off. It's then time for World Duty Free where you can pick up your favourite spirits (over 18's only, drink responsibly), beauty and skincare goodies, sunglasses, sweets and bags. The World Duty Free section not only has a bunch of amazing things for you to pick up, they also offer taster sessions in the wine & spirits sections and makeup and fragrance consultations in the beauty section. The only thing I was missing in the World Duty Free section was somewhere for you to have a mini pre-flight pamper, something like a mini facial bar from Clarins.

I don't know about you but after all that shopping I'm desperately in need of a coffee the size of my head, thankfully there is not only 1 but 2 Starbucks (one pre and post-security). So there's plenty of places for me to get a coffee the side of my head for post-shopping or those early morning flights!

Of course, I couldn't leave without picking up a couple of amazing goodies for myself. I couldn't pass the Traveller store and Jo Malone without treating myself to something. When I was wandering around the Traveller store taking photos, I kept coming back to this happy t-shirt from Vero Moda and I just couldn't leave without it. It's a super soft, white t-shirt with the fire truck red cursive writing across the boob area, I managed to get it for only £12! I am the perfect sucker for those pre-till enticing purchases, whilst I was being rung up I spotted these Oh La La keyrings from Willow & Rose sitting on the till and for only £4 it was just waiting to be bought so I may have picked up the blush pink colour.

I have eyeing up Jo Malone products for literally as long as I've been blogging and when I noticed the counter in the beauty section of Duty-Free, I had to make a little cheeky purchase! I've been lusting after this Peony & Blush Suede cologne for I don't know how long, with notes of red apple, peony and suede and for only £36 I couldn't help myself! I was eyeing some of the body care so I'm definitely going to have to pick them up when I next go travelling.

Have you flown through John Lennon Airport before?

Speak to you next time!

  1. I used to be addicted to the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour travel exclusive sets in the airport, I was always stocking up on them when travelling - there's something about it now that just screams holiday to me! Can't beat a good mooch around the duty free!
