Even though I've lived on the Wirral for nearly 10 years now, I never found myself going into Chester even though I only lived 20 minutes drive away! However thanks to blogging, I've found myself coming to Chester more and more over the past year or so. On my latest trip to Chester, I nipped into Cafe Rouge with my mother to try out Cafe Rouge for the first time and try out some their new additions to their Croque menu.

If you haven't been to Cafe Rouge before, it's definitely worth adding to your must-go list. For me, it really stands out compared to other restaurants because not only is the food delicious but the Parisian themed decor makes it such a beautiful and unique place to eat out. There are over 100 locations throughout the UK, so there really is no reason for you not to go and try out their new decadent additions to the Croque menu with a cocktail in this gorgeous sunshine!

I've never been a fan of Croques as they often contain ham which is a complete no go for me, thankfully the new additions to the Croques menu at Cafe Rouge have given me the chance to try a Croque and actually like it. For those who aren't big fans of ham like me, Cafe Rouge have switched up their menu and reinvented a French classic. The 3 new Croques features a veggie friendly portobello mushroom version, a smoked salmon version and a chicken club version.

As much as I wanted to go for one of the Gin Blooms that Cafe Rouge offer (you need to go take a look next time you go, they all sound amazing), I was driving so I ended up going for the Pink Lemonade mocktail which I loved as it wasn't super sweet, it was more like traditional lemonade. My mum went for the Peach Iced Tea which was lovely but is a lot subtler in taste, compared to the Pink Lemonade but they were both lovely and refreshing, perfect for all this sunny weather we're having at the moment!

After much deliberation of the menu, we finally figured out what we were going to go for. For someone that's ridiculously fussy when it comes to eating out somewhere, I was really impressed that I would actually eat at least 80% of the menu. Whilst all of the Croques are grilled with Emmental cheese sandwiches on sourdough bread with a bechamel sauce, there are five different types to choose from. I ended up going for the Club Croque which has roast chicken, crispy pancetta, baby gem lettuce and a sundried tomato bechamel with a side of frites. Now it takes a lot for me to say that I really like a sandwich (I've never been the type of person that loves having a sandwich for lunch), but the Croques from Cafe Rouge were absolutely bloody delicious. Whilst I'm not a massive fan of baby gem lettuce (but put some spinach or kale in there and I'm all about it), the staff at Cafe Rouge were really nice about making any alterations.

I loved the new additions to the Croque menu at Cafe Rouge, whilst I'm not a massive mushroom person I loved the decadence of the Club Croque (with the pink lemonade) so that would be my top pick for something to try out when you next head to Cafe Rouge!

Have you tried a Croque sandwich before?

Speak to you next time!
