Learning To Look After Me | Self-Care With L'Occitane

My name is Danielle and I am a critical care nurse, blogger, vlogger, and human and I genuinely don't know the last time I actually took some time out and looked after myself. Spending roughly 14 hours a day looking after other people then spending whatever spare time I have writing blog posts, editing pictures, editing vlogs and running my social media meant I had very little time for my friends and family, let alone having time to just exist as a human and look after myself.

However, since I became ill in March I've started to make it a mission of mine to set firm goals, disconnect more from social media and give myself some much needed me-time and I've really started looking out for number one. Whenever I wear makeup, I really try and set it into place to try and make it last for as long as humanly possible, so I've started taking the time after I've been out all day to have a mini pamper and take the time to look after my skin every evening. My first step in having a mini pamper is getting all that makeup off my skin and being able to let it breathe, my go-to product for this is this cleansing oil from L'Occitane. It gets rid of every inch of makeup without making my face red or my eyes sore.

I've started making it a goal of mine that once my makeup is off, my phone is also off. I am awful at wasting so much time scrolling through twitter, instagram and facebook, working in social media you never truly log out of the internet so I've made it my goal to spend a few hours each evening completely away from my phone and laptop and to spend that time doing something that will improve me mentally. At the moment, I've been using this time to run myself a dream-worthy bubble bath and read a good book. Some of the books I've been loving to read lately is #GirlBoss, The Goddess Revolution and The Miracle Morning. In my bubble baths, I tend to rotate my favourite products but my never fail product is the Almond Shower Oil from L'Occitane, first up it amazes me that it's an oil until you rub it in and then it transforms into a foam, it also smells incredible and is the perfect all year round scent.

My last step in taking some time to look after me is getting wrapped up in my favourite dressing gown from Ted Baker (dressing gowns are truly the answer to all problems!), lighting my favourite candles from Owen Drew Candles and having a mug of Dozy Girl tea. I've become a big fan of having a set routine before bed and staying away from electronics, it's really helped my brain wind down and I can truly start to relax and feel sleepy.

Do you regularly take some time to look after yourself?

Speak to you next time!

  1. It sounds like you've got yourself into a really good routine and that's so important, especially after being poorly.

I am terrible at taking time out to do anything and it's a habit I need to change. Sometimes I can barely be bothered to take my makeup off (eep). I do however love my pjs and always make sure I snuggle up somewhere before bed and make all efforts to put my phone away to stop the aimless scrolling.
